Steps to Ownership

Franchise Process Steps: 10 Steps to Ownership

If you’re new to franchising—or just Garage Kings—you may not know exactly how to go from Googling “epoxy flooring business for sale” to being a proud owner.

A business is an investment, and you want to know exactly what you’re getting into before you put money towards it. At Garage Kings, we make our steps to ownership clear and transparent.

Here’s the path to owning a Garage Kings franchise:

1: Qualify as a Potential Owner

We first ask you to submit a form showing your interest in becoming a Garage Kings franchise location owner. Tell us your name and location and a little bit about why you want to own a Garage Kings floor coating franchise. This helps our team get to know you and gives us somewhere to start when recommending territories if you’re approved.

We also ask you for financial information concerning your net worth (minimum $300K required) and liquid capital (minimum $150K required). Our minimum requirements help ensure you have enough capital to buy your garage floor coating business without unnecessary strain.

2. Gain More Insight into Owning a Garage Floor Coating Franchise

Once we have your information, we’ll send you a confirmation email containing more information about Garage Kings and what franchising with us looks like. This email aims to preemptively answer some of your questions about ownership and provide a look at Garage Kings as a business.

3. Book an Intro Call

Once we’ve determined that you have the potential to succeed with us, you’ll receive a phone call from our partners at Rep’M to set up an introductory call. During this call, we’ll learn more about you and your entrepreneurial goals and determine if you’re a good fit for a concrete coating and garage renovation company.

You’ll also have the opportunity to ask us questions and learn about the brand, our support team, your role as a franchise owner, and the Garage Kings franchise cost.

4. Review the Franchise Disclosure Document

If we decide to move forward together, you’ll receive the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). This document provides more details about the Garage Kings business model, expenses, and revenue expectations. Signing it does not mean you’re locked into an agreement to franchise with us, it just means you’re ready for the next steps of information gathering.

At this stage, you’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about our marketing and operations strategies.

5. Hear from Current Garage Kings Owners

You don’t have to take our word that we’re a premium partner. We’ll connect you with current Garage Kings franchisees as well as our leadership team for firsthand insights on how franchising with us works.

6. Choose Your Territory

Our team can recommend the best location to meet your business goals, or you can request somewhere you already have in mind. We analyze potential territories, providing demographic and psychographic data and evaluating the competitive landscape to help you choose your business location.

7. Attend Discovery Day

Gain even more insight into the Garage Kings brand, philosophy, training, and next steps before making the final decision to sign with us. You’ll meet our Executive Team in person at our office in Ann Arbor, MI, including our President, CEO, Chief Growth Officer, and Head of Marketing. In-person attendance is required for solo owners, though we can accommodate some people from pair or group owners attending virtually as long as one person attends on location. You’ll learn more about day-to-day operations and the support you can expect throughout the launch and as an owner.

Sign Franchise Agreement

When you have all the information you need, you’ll sign your franchise agreement (which is separate from the FDD). Our onboarding team will provide guided support for the 8-12 weeks until your business launches. When you sign the agreement, our team will let you know how to make your initial payments.

So, how do you buy a franchise?

Our onboarding team will help you set up your payments and review your financial options with you. We don’t offer in-house financing but can connect you with a trusted third-party provider. You will need enough capital to cover initial expenses, such as real estate, equipment, and the franchise fee. We also recommend that you have enough capital to cover the first three months of expenses while your business is still getting off the ground.

9. Onboard and Train for Ownership

Attend our 7-day specialized technical training that gives you all the information you need to succeed with Garage Kings. The first portion is a 5-day, in-person technical training in New Carlisle, OH where you learn how to perform floor and storage installations. Then you’ll attend two and a half days of business training, which may be both in-person and virtual, depending on the size of the class. Our team will prepare you before launch, so you have a grounding in the day-to-day skills you’ll need to operate your Garage Kings location.
